Social media addiction may seem like a joke to some but it
can be a serious problem. There are people who are at greater risks of becoming
addicts but anyone can pick up this bad habit. It’s a fast growing addiction
that can happen to anyone, young or old, female or male. The one thing that is
certain is that those who suffer from this addiction they begin to lose touch
with reality. “A study by Stanford University found that only two to five hours
of Internet use per week causes a person to lose contact with their real world
social environment. For those spending more than 10 hours per week online, up
to 15 percent reported a decrease in social activities.” It is a scary thought
that you could be an addict and may not even know it because you believe that
there is no such addiction and that it is natural to stay connected with all of
the social media outlets offered to us.
Those who suffer from things like depression, anxiety, and
insomnia and so on are more at risk to become addicted to social media. This
being said though it is possible for other people to become addicted as well.
Some people actually have a fear of missing out (FOMO) which causes them to
become addicted which is a common thing teens always are worrying about. All of these different issues play a part in becoming
addiction and doesn’t limit anyone to picking up the addiction. Being aware of already
existing symptoms and problems can help prevent and stop addictions from
arising.
The big question to ask yourself is “am I addicted to social
media?” If you are even questioning if
you are the best solution to this is do your research, look into it and ask
yourself questions. Throughout these blogs, other classmates of mine have
provided helpful information on this topic for you to use. Hopefully the
